A Guangzhou resident's summary of what the city costs against Shanghai was three characters long — 差不多, roughly the same — except hotels, the one line where Guangzhou is genuinely and substantially cheaper. Tianhe runs 30–40% above Yuexiu for the same standard, which is worth knowing before you default to the CBD. The exception is Canton Fair fortnight, when Pazhou rooms go 2–4× and sell out sixty days ahead. Book those in July for October.
