Rule one: Monday is the enemy. Nanyue King, Chen Clan, the Guangdong Museum, Bai'etan, the Cantonese Opera Art Museum and the Science Center all close on Mondays. A Monday in Guangzhou is for Shamian, Baiyun Mountain, the markets and the skyline — plan the museums around it.
Rule two: free usually means reserved. The big free museums ration entry through real-name WeChat mini-program bookings — the Guangdong Museum caps at 5,000 a day and Bai'etan wants two or three days' notice in holiday periods. Is the Canton Tower light show free to watch?
